The City of Wetumpka is pleased to announce the hiring of Tay Knight, a Wetumpka native and Certified Public Accountant, as the city’s first comptroller. This new position, created by the Wetumpka City Council to strengthen the city’s Finance Department, reflects the city’s commitment to responsible stewardship and long-term financial sustainability.
Knight brings more than three decades of financial leadership and community service to the role. She spent 24 years with Warren Averett, one of the Southeast’s leading accounting and advisory firms, and most recently served eight years as Executive Director of the Family Sunshine Center, where she oversaw operations, financial management, and strategic planning.
Knight is a graduate of Troy University, where she earned a B.S. in Accounting and later obtained her CPA designation. Her dedication to excellence and her accomplished career earned her induction into the Troy University Accounting Hall of Fame.
Knight also has a long record of community leadership. She served in multiple roles with the Family Sunshine Center Board of Directors and is a longtime member and former President of the Alabama Association of Nonprofits Board of Directors. Her involvement with the Auburn University Women’s Philanthropy Board and Connections – Women’s Leadership Initiative further demonstrates her commitment to leadership development and service across the state.
Mayor Jerry Willis said Knight’s appointment comes at a key moment in Wetumpka’s continued growth and momentum. “The City of Wetumpka has made tremendous growth in recent years and the future ahead promises more of that growth,” Mayor Willis said. “The city needs a strong financial leader to help us manage our budget and continue to be good stewards of taxpayers’ investments into our community. We believe Tay is that person.”
Knight shared her enthusiasm for stepping into this new role for her hometown. “I am excited to join a team where everyone is passionate about the opportunities that lie ahead for their community,” Knight said. “It will be an honor to play a role in the management and stewardship of the city.”
The City of Wetumpka looks forward to the expertise, professionalism, and community-centered leadership Knight will bring as Comptroller. 408 S. Main St. Wetumpka, AL | (334) 567-5147 | wetumpkaal.gov 408 S. Main St. Wetumpka, AL | (334) 567-5147 | wetumpkaal.gov
