Mya Holt graduated from Wetumpka High School in 2024 as one of the most highly decorated athletes in school history. Holt led the Wetumpka softball team to a Class 6A state championship as a junior, and was named Class 6A Pitcher of the Year as a junior and senior. She was also named Class 6A 1st Team All State both years, and ASWA Super All-State both years.

Holt recently completed her freshman season playing softball for Troy University, where she pitched 88 innings total, good for second most on the team. She had an 11-5 record with a 3.58 earned run average.

“Playing for Troy this past year was awesome,” said Holt. “The biggest thing that I loved was the chemistry amongst the team. It can sometimes be hard finding teams with decent chemistry, but this year’s team was just great. I definitely feel like things like that can contribute to how you play together as a whole on the field. Going into the fall games I was pretty pleased with my pitching performances. With one of them being against Georgia Tech and throwing five shutout innings with one hit. I was pleased with the opportunity I got during the spring as well. I would say I had a good freshman season, but definitely know I have room for improvement in areas.”

The jump from dominating in high school to competing as a freshman in Division 1 college softball was a big one.

“Transitioning from high school to playing D1 ball had some very obvious differences. The skill set and game IQ you saw from game to game from our team as well as different teams was just on another level. The amount of plays that were made so effortlessly by players that were just high IQ plays are common to see. The game is so much faster when it comes to base-running speed and pitching speed which makes fielding speed quicker and everything just moves fast making it highly competitive.”

Holt had the opportunity to pitch against some big time opponents in her freshman season, but one in particular sticks out as the most memorable from her first season.

“The most memorable moment for myself would be the first time I got to pitch against Auburn. I was put into the game to pitch and faced two batters and struck out the second batter for the last out of the inning. Being a big Alabama fan growing up, that was just a different experience and feeling for me.”

The former Wetumpka softball star cited the most memorable team moments as the bus rides during the season and the series win over South Alabama.

Heading into her sophomore season, Holt has a few areas where she wants to focus. “I have some specific goals when it comes to pitching, but long story short, improve my pitching. And an obvious goal would be to win the conference tournament next year.”

Holt is back in her hometown for the summer as she gets ready for her sophomore season at Troy. She plans to return to campus a few days prior to the start of school on August 13.
