Less than two weeks into the 2025 high school soccer season, the Prattville Boys’ soccer team has proven why they were ranked #3 in the Alabama High School 2025 Pre-Season Coaches’ Poll. The Lions started the season competing in the top bracket of the Southern Shootout High School Tournament in Foley, Alabama.  Prattville played three games in three days and did not allow a single goal, defeating Baker 6-0, Briarwood Christian 2-0, and Davidson 3-0.

In the second weekend of the season, the Lions defeated Enterprise 4-0, and Westminster (Georgia) 3-2. Westminster is the defending 4A state champs in Georgia, and they are ranked as the #1 team in 4A in Georgia to start 2025.

“The daily commitment and work ethic has been important to our early success,” said Prattville Head Coach Trevor Ledkins. “And good players! A lot of our players compete in high level club soccer in the fall.”

The team’s 5-0 record to start the season has told Coach Ledkins a lot about his team’s character and opportunities available for the remainder of the season.

“We’ve learned that we have to play great for a full game. Our last game was 3-2. There were times (against Westminster) that we didn’t play well and it almost cost us the win, but we were able to overcome adversity. Our team is capable of winning an area championship and possibly more. Our team goals are to complete the objectives at every practice session, win our area, and then win the state championship. To have a chance at those goals we have to stay focused on the objectives for each day.”

The Lions boast an impressive goal differential of 18 goals scored and only 2 goals allowed. Porter Sutton leads the team with 4 goals and Levi Smith leads the team with 4 assists.

The Lions will have an even bigger test on Thursday, as they host Oak Mountain, the defending Class 7A champions, at 17 Springs. With Oak Mountain ranked #1 and Prattville #3, Thursday’s game could be a prelude to a late-round playoff or state championship game.

“Oak Mountain is an outstanding team with excellent results,” said Coach Ledkins. “We will have to have a great game and keep mistakes to a minimum to have a chance to win.”
