The Prattville Lady Lions traveled to Panama City Beach the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day and competed in the Buzzer at the Bash Holiday Basketball Tournament, one of the top tournaments in the area. The tournament was hosted by North Bay Haven Charter. The Lady Lions competed in the top bracket, which hosted over 15 teams from Florida, Georgia, and Alabama.
In their opening game of the tournament, Prattville defeated the Westlake Lions out of Atlanta, Georgia, 53-50. The following day, the Lady Lions defeated Gainesville (GA) 55-31. At 11 p.m. on the night before the final game, Prattville found out that their game time the following day had been changed from 1:30 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. Despite the change, the Lady Lions defeated the Lanier Longhorns out of Sugar Hill, Georgia, 59-35 to claim the tournament championship.
“We always enjoy the tournaments in Florida,” said Head Coach Erica DuBois. “They allow more physical play there and it is enjoyable for the girls to be able to play under those circumstances. The girls competed in the top bracket along with teams from all over Florida, Georgia, and Alabama, and came out as tournament champions.”
KeLeigh Mullens led the Lions averaging 13 points per game and 4 steals per game. Jayla West-Young was just behind her averaging 12.3 points per game and 5.6 assists per game. Jayda Scott pulled down more than 11 rebounds per game.
With three wins in three days, Prattville’s record improves to 16-4 on the season. The Lady Lions will travel to Tallassee on Friday before starting region play next week against Tuscaloosa County and Thompson.
