Prattville Swimmers Score Big at State Championships

From the Prattville Swim League

Coach Joseph Reynolds

Swimmers from Prattville Christian Academy (PCA) and Prattville High School (PHS) competed last month at the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) state championships in Huntsville.

PCA’s girls had the best outing, placing 6th overall in the 1-5A division.  Among the girls, Emmy Wesh finished 4th in 100 butterfly and 4th in 100 backstroke.  Olivia Koch finished 7th in 200 freestyle and 7th in the 50 free.  Addison Montgomery earned 6th in the 50 freestyle and 7th in the 100 free.

In relays, Wesch, Koch, Montgomery, and Jorja Bowman placed 7th in the state in the 200 medley and 6th in the 200 freestyle.

The most dominant performance of the weekend was PCA’s Lannon Bowman, placing 2nd in the state in the 100 butterfly and 6th in the 100 breastroke.  Bowman’s butterfly time also qualified him for the USA Swimming Southeastern Championships this upcoming February.

PCA’s boys also finished 8th in the 200-freestyle relay with Austin Barnes, Caleb Johnson, Kaylen Cox, and Lannon Boman.  Anna-Claire Murdock represented PHS and earned 8th statewide in the 6-7A 100 girls breastroke.

When not representing their high schools, these swimmers compete year-round for the Prattville Swim League (PSL).  With over 90 swimmers on the roster, PSL has earned high recognition in multiple venues, including a 5th place finish in Alabama’s Parks and Recreation state championships.
