The Elmore County Board of Education held its monthly meeting this evening, where a special tribute was paid to the district’s Teachers of the Year. Refreshments were served as educators from across the county were recognized for their dedication and impact on students.
Board Chair David Jones opened the celebration with high praise for the honorees. “We don’t have much on the agenda for today, but we do have a celebration of the Teachers of the Year,” he said. “We are excited to recognize our amazing teachers at today’s board meeting.”
Teachers of the Year from each school were honored before the district-wide winners were announced. For grades K-6, Courtney Davis of Redland Middle School was named Teacher of the Year. Representing grades 7-12, Christopher Robbins of Wetumpka High School received the same distinction.
“These teachers exemplify what it means to inspire and educate,” said Jones. “Their passion and commitment make a difference in the lives of our students every day.”
As the county-wide winners, Davis and Robbins will now have the opportunity to represent Elmore County in the competition for Alabama Teacher of the Year, further highlighting the district’s commitment to educational excellence.
Before the regular meeting, a swearing-in ceremony was held for newly elected and re-elected board members Wendell Saxon, Josh Lett, and David Jones. The ceremonies were presided over by District Judge Tiffany McCord of Montgomery, Elmore County District Judge Glenn Goggans, and Probate Judge John Thornton.
Following the celebration, the board transitioned to its work session, where they discussed the timeline for Superintendent Richard Dennis’ contract. As an appointed position, the superintendent’s contract spans 3-4 years, with a review process at the end to determine its renewal.
Once the regular session began, Board Chair David Jones called the meeting to order. Bill Meyer led the invocation, and the agenda was unanimously approved after being motioned by Michael Morgan and seconded by Leisa Finley.
The board approved the minutes from the October and November 12th meetings, personnel actions, and the 2025-2026 school calendar, all without opposition.
Before adjourning, board members expressed gratitude for those who have contributed to the district. Leisa Finley praised Shay Jackson for her hard work and dedication to Elmore County Schools. Wendell Saxon and Michael Morgan recognized retiring Board Member Joey Holley, commending his years of service.
In closing, David Jones reflected on the district’s achievements. “I may be biased, but I do believe that we have the best program in the state,” he said.
The meeting adjourned with a spirit of celebration and appreciation for the educators and leaders shaping Elmore County’s schools.
