The Pine Level City Council made history Thursday night by selecting their first ever town logo, made by local Marbury High School Student Nicole Moates.
Mayor Zachary Bigley read in a proclamation, proclaiming the logo made by Moats as the official logo for the Town of Pine Level.
“On behalf of the Town of Pine Level, on behalf of our Council, thank you so much for taking the time, using your gift, and creating this and for being a blessing to our Town,” Bigley said.
In attendance to support the local student was Superintendent of Autauga County Schools Lymen Woodfin, Chairman of the Autauga County Board of Education Billy Hollon as well as Moates’s art teacher Spring Bruner and the new principal of Marbury High School Jimmy Lansdell.
Bigley went on to give an update to the council regarding Pine Level’s first Independence Day Celebration. Bigley confirmed that there are 20 participants within the parade for floats and there will be over 20 vendors and five food trucks to commemorate the historical celebration at Spirit Walk Ministries, 1908 County Road 107.
The council also unanimously voted to elect Norma Cothran as the Grand Marshal of the Independence Day Celebration. Cothran’s late husband James (Micky) Cothran was on the Pine Level City Council before his abrupt passing at the start of the year in mid-January.
“I strongly suggest Norma Cothran to be our grand marshal for our first parade in honor of her late husband and the work he’s put into the town,” Bigley said.
Bigley went on to thank the Pine Level Incorporation Committee and read in a proclamation creating a permanent record of gratitude for the generous devotion to the town of Pine Level.
On the committee, Malvin Barber, Zachary Bigley, Raye Cartee, Diane Causey, Mickey Cothran, Larry Deavers, Lacey Dorsey, Howard Eddings, Mack Farley, Kyle Glover, Nicole Guy, Fred Hoff, Ken Hollon, Stephanie Irvine, Steve Thomas, George Turnipseed and Donnie Wyatt.
Bigley also confirmed that select members of the council and himself participated in Powell’s Spring Clean Up Day, where volunteers collected over 600 lbs of trash, Bigley stated.
The Council also annexed three separate properties into the Pine Level city limits. The three separate properties were the Cooper, Lewis and Smith properties, which all unanimously passed into annexation by the council.
