The Prattville Farmers Market had their first official market this past Saturday June 8th, where there was only sunshine, smiles and fresh produce in sight.
The market will be held every Saturday June through August from 7 a.m. till noon, located at 332 Doster Rd. in Prattville. The Prattville Famers Market will feature fresh locally grown fruits and vegetables, along with local honey, homemade baked goods, jams, jellies, eggs, handmade bath and body products, plants and more.
Every week there is a new theme and new giveaway Mynecia Steele, Prattville Cultural Arts Manager confirmed.
We’re excited to have the community come out and get fresh and local produce,” Steele said.
Where last week’s theme was Berry First Market, and this week’s theme Rise & Shine. Due to inclement weather last weekend, this week had both themes for the bright and shining berry first official Prattville Farmers Market.
With each theme, a gift basket is given away. The first 30 people to the market are entered to win, and the first 30 also receive a free canvas bag agorned with the Prattville Farmers Market logo.
“I love that you can come out with a family and have a good time. Be productive, get some fresh food before you even really start your day because you still have the rest of the day ahead of you. Come out, have a good time before noon,” Steele said.
A lot of the local vendors and farmers at the Prattville Farmers Market are also a part of the Farmers Market Nutrition Program, and the Seniors Farmers Market Nutrition Program or SFMNP. This provides eligible seniors with a $50 benefit card to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from certified farmers at farmers markets around the state of Alabama.
