From Autauga County PALS
April’s spring cleanup
Volunteers Britton and Lauren Boone started their day early on April 20th, to participate in the Alabama PALS, People Against a Littered State, Spring Cleanup. Britton Boone is an avid fishing conservation YouTube creator, while Lauren Boone is a member of the Prattville Lions Club. The morning of the cleanup they met with an Autauga PALS representative at PRatt Park to coordinate the most crucial areas needing attention. After dawning their gloves and grabbers the Boones decided to begin at the end of Doster Road connecting Hwy 31.
It was your typical haul in the beginning, fast food cups, plastic bags and candy wrappers. Neither of them thought it was going to be a day out of the ordinary, until Britton made a rare find, a handgun. Initially believed to be a plastic toy, he picked it up and the couple realized it was a real firearm with live rounds in the chamber. The gun was carefully placed back where it was found and immediately called the proper authorities.
Prattville Police Department officers responded within minutes and confirmed that it was a real gun and took it in for processing. This experience proves that something as simple as pickup up trash can make a real difference. Not only does it keep “Alabama the Beautiful,” it can also mean keeping dangerous materials out of an innocent environment.
The next Autauga PALS cleanup is on June 1st at Swift Creek Landing in Autaugaville. To register please call or text 334-799-4173. Come help us clean up Autauga County. You never know what you’ll find!
