Obituary for Mr. John “Johnny” Clyde Moore
Founding member of the Millbrook Revelers
Johnny Clyde Moore, 82, passed away on March 3, 2024, in Deatsville, Al.
Son of Roy and Annie John Moore, he was born August 19, 1941, in Lineville, AL. He graduated Sidney Lanier High School in 1959. While in high school, he was employed by Jimmy Rouse, owner of Rouse Motors, a local Chrysler/Plymouth auto dealership. Over the years, Johnny learned the auto mechanic trade and moved his way up to become a service advisor for Rouse Motors. Having loved the auto industry so much, he decided to start his auto repair business and called it Johnny’s Automotive. He then decided to pursue other avenues and obtained his real estate license and hanging his license at Partridge Realty. He also pursued a career with Liberty Nation Life Insurance Company and ALFA Insurance where he ultimately retired. He enjoyed his retirement gardening, traveling, becoming a founding member of the Millbrook Revelers Mardi Gras Krewe, and enjoying Mardi Gras in Biloxi, MS.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie John Moore and father, Roy Clyde Moore and other family members. He is survived by his wife and mother of his children, Patricia “Pat” Renee Taylor Moore of Deatsville, AL; their children: daughter Andrea (DeeDee) Calloway of Prattville, AL and son, David Moore of Montgomery, AL and his wife, Holly Moore of Montgomery, AL; brother Roger Moore, sister Frances Oates three grandchildren: Taylor Calloway, Lexie Moore Strong (Ben), Dixon Moore, and future great grandchild Sarah Elizabeth Strong.
Johnny was a deeply beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and a friend to a great number of people. His diagnosis was sudden, and his passing was quick.
While we lost our most beloved husband and dad, many have lost a friend and loved one in him. He has been a rock to many, a master at sarcastic humor and witty timing to others, and even a glorious pain in the neck, to what I’m sure is a small select few (because no matter what happened between you in your lives, once you were marked as important to him, he’d be by your side if you needed him). There was so much more to him than just Johnny, though to us that was his greatest roll – he was also a friend, a coworker and colleague, a cousin, brother, connoisseur of Crown Royal and house slippers, a handyman, jack of all trades, and the list goes on and on.
A Celebration of Johnny’s life was held on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Millbrook with Dr. Tyler Cox officiating. The interment followed at Brookside Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Walter Wallace, Eddie Ousley, John Drew, Tom Salter, Bobby Clark, Keith Yarborough, Bill Roberts, Wayne Allen & Baron McConnell. The family received friends on Friday, March 8, 2024, prior to the services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Johnny Moore can be made to First United Methodist Church of Millbrook
