The Stanhope Elmore High School Quarterback Club has some fresh faces looking to make the booster club a first down and yards more this coming season and years to come. The new president of the booster, Mike Floyd, is looking to make an impact not only through the boys on the football field but in the community as well.

“Our passion is to get out there and not just encourage them and love on them and high -five them, but teaching them how to be a leader on the field so that that will translate into life,” Floyd said.

The Quarterback Club has been a long-standing tradition for the SEHS football program and the Millbrook community. The booster club started with the man, the myth and first Mustang, Conrad Henderson. The Mustangs got their name from Henderson as the first head football coach that drove his Mustang car to Quarterback Club meetings and school with his various roles with SEHS, thus the Mustangs were born, Floyd confirms.

“I’m a very open person, and I have an open door. I’m so appreciative that the parents let their kids be part of our program. We want to get the community involved in what we do, and we really want to encourage parents not to feel like there’s any barrier. In our program we want your family to be a part of the program, not just your kid,” Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Hunter Adams said.

The original coach and mustang, Henderson, was dedicated to the community and this new era of Quarterback Club and head coach Adams is no different.

“They do a really great job if there’s a specific need that might not fall within our budget. A couple years ago it was lockers in the fieldhouse. If we need a certain type of new sled, a special piece of equipment, extra helmets, extra shoulder pads, they just go above and beyond to make sure we have those resources in place to get what we need,” Adams said.

This booster provides more than just team meals, transportation and taking care of the away team during the season. The Quarterback Club provides a wide array of support for the student athletes, coaching staff, the stadium and more.

“Our number one task is supporting the kids, and our number one goal is fundraising. We want to support the team in any way we can. And then obviously number two is to support the coaching staff in any way we can,” Floyd said.

From pressure washing and cleaning the grandstands, taking care of concessions, end of year banquet, senior night, providing new cleats and socks to the athletes and putting up a monument honoring Coach Foshee and Coach Henderson, the Quarterback Club does it all.

“We are involved in set up and tear down on the sideline before and after the games. making sure that the opposing coaches when they came in on Friday’s were hosted well and greeted as well as welcomed to Millbrook,” Floyd said.

Going forward the Club will be hosting their meeting at Front Porch Grill in Millbrook the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. The club does require payment to attend meetings and members have a vote in what happens, but help is always welcomed.

“Our number one fundraiser is recruiting businesses to be displayed at the field on the fence line. We’re also going to be looking for sponsors at the press box, the student field house, home gate and the away gate. We’re also going to be doing a constant contact email chain and any sponsors that want to be promoted and used to promote their businesses through our email chain,” Floyd said.

Floyd stated if any perspective parents or members of the community are interested in joining to contact him directly at 501-513-7136 or email at [email protected]
