2023 was a very big year for the Holtville High School Class of 1973 as they celebrated their 50-year anniversary of leaving high school.
An eight-member committee was formed early in 2023 and they immediately started gathering information and planning for this special occasion. The Committee consisted of Debbie (Gray) Bozeman, Glenda Curlee, Janet (Conway) Geddie, Wanda Jackson, Renee Locke, Earl Thornton and Regina Whitehead. They took on the most time-consuming task of locating classmates from 1973. Out of the graduating class of 50 individuals, 100% of the classmates were located and corresponded with.
The committee began meeting about once monthly to review the progress, but these meetings quickly became a special time for each of them to reminisce and laugh and catch up!
The kick-off for the reunion was a “meet and greet” at Coaches Corner in Wetumpka on Friday, 06/02/2023. The turnout was exceptional with over half of the class attending, along with three teachers from back in the day! Mrs. Jackie Earnest, Mr. J.C. Womble and Mr. Leon Robinson were teachers way back then, but were “friends” on this evening.
On the morning of 06/03/2023 about 20 classmates met at Holtville High School to tour the facility. Then Principal, Kyle Futral gave the class a grand tour of the high school with its MANY changes since 1973. Everyone had a blast walking the halls and remembering how it used to be vs how it is now.
Then on the evening of 06/03/2023, the class had its Reunion Party at the Courtyard in downtown Wetumpka. Attending were approximately two-thirds of the entire class. Most classmates were local, but there were others from Franklin, TN, Johns Creek, GA, Cullman, AL, Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Roopville, GA, Natchitoches LA, and Auburn, AL.
Lynn Thrasher made the welcoming speech and the invocation. He gave an honorable mention to the eight classmates who have passed away. His speech was very touching and heartwarming. The weekend was a total success and enjoyed by all.
On 09/15/2023, several classmates attended the Alumni Tea in the Library and then attended the HHS Homecoming Game against Selma. Some braved the rain and stayed and got soaked to the bone. Others were not as brave and slipped away at the first raindrops!
