This Saturday, May 20 from 11a.m.-3p.m. adopt your next best friend from a Tri-County pet adoption event at three local animal shelters. Humane Society of Elmore County, Montgomery Humane Society and Prattville/Autauga Humane Society will simultaneously host events at each location, with pet adoptions starting at just $10. Each location will feature different activities, including kids crafts and games, food drives, and foster/volunteer information booths. For each location’s specific day-of details, visit the website of the local shelter. Interviews are available on-site during the events.
Now is a great time to welcome a pet into your home. Animal shelters are struggling with higher intakes, while adoptions and fosters are not keeping pace. This has led to a population imbalance, with more animals in shelters, causing increased strain on shelter staff and the current shelter crisis. With most U.S. shelters at or over capacity, pets are more at risk for being killed due to lack of space.
