PHOTOS: Millbrook’s Christmas Festival, Parade a Success, despite a bit of Rain

For as many years as most Millbrook residents can remember, June and Bob Headrick were Santa’s biggest helpers at the city’s annual events. June was given a place of honor to watch the parade Saturday. Sadly, Bob Headrick passed away earlier this year. Thank you to both of them for all of the Christmas Joy they helped to spread over more than 30 years.

On Saturday, the Millbrook Spirit of Christmas Committee and City Departments hosted the annual Christmas festival and parade. Vendors were set up in Village Green Park, while the parade rolled from Smokehouse BBQ on Main Street north.

And while the Grinch tried to spoil the spirit of Christmas, we have a photo of him being taken into custody by Millbrook Police Department Lt. Matt Henson. He is under no bond and will not be allowed anymore before the new year to cause trouble. (See photo above.)

The weather didn’t completely cooperate, and a light rain was present at times until just before parade time. But spirits were high. Longtime Spirit of Christmas Committee Chairwoman Kathy Kelley was honored as Grand Marshal. She has announced she is stepping down after this year. Next year the festival and parade will be taken over by newly hired Special Events Director Danae Morgan.

Judges for the float competition were area bankers Rusty Smith, Jon Foshee and Jamie Brown.

The emcee for the parade was John Kilpatrick.

Entertainment that morning was courtesy of Chung’s Taekwondo and Lisa’s Dance Dimensions.

Judges for the float competition awarded winners in multiple categories.
