The official Millbrook Tree Lighting will take place Thursday evening at Village Green Park on Main Street!
Workers have been busy this week at Village Green Park preparing for a big crowd Thursday for the official lighting of the park. This year’s lighting will be like no other in the history of the celebration, according to Danae Morgan, Millbrook’s Special Events Coordinator. The Parks and Recreation Department has been very busy, indeed. The theme this year is “A Whoville Christmas.” Early signs are that the park will be a scene of which the Grinch would be proud!
The Elmore/Autauga News will be there to get plenty of photos, so dress in your best Christmas gear!
Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. this Thursday with Clemency and special guests from the Millbrook Senior Center.
A One-of-a-kind Millbrook Spirit of Christmas ornament will be available at the event for $25. They are also available at various businesses in town. Supplies are limited, so get yours early. (See graphic listing locations.)
The opening prayer will be at 6 p.m. with Lead Pastor DJ Stinard of The Gathering Place Church of Millbrook, followed by the story of Jesus’ birth.
There are multiple organizations set to show off their talents musically during the event including the Millbrook Middle and SEHS Band and Choir, Coosada Elementary and Airport Road Intermediate. There will also be dancers from Airport Road Intermediate’s Dance Team.
Once the tree is lit in the park, there is a 100 percent guarantee of SNOW! Bring your cameras, and take plenty of family photos. Following the tree lighting there will be a band concert including students from Millbrook Middle and SEHS.
The Diamond Club with the SEHS Baseball team will be providing hot chocolate and other refreshments as a fund raiser!
Come early, stay late and be prepared for quite a light show once the park is fully illuminated along with the City’s Christmas Tree! This will be a great representation of a true, hometown Christmas event and all are welcome to sing along with Christmas Carols.
PLEASE bring a can of food or non-perishable food item to the park which can be placed in a container. All food will be donated to the WELCOME Food Pantry of Millbrook.
