New art contest is Fun, Free and will Feed the Hungry – with Rocks!

Prattville, AL – Who says rocks can’t feed the hungry?  Julianne Hansen, of Hansen Fine Art & Pottery located in Historic Downtown Prattville, says otherwise, but with a twist.  In her new Fall Painted Rock Contest, she has created a concept that is truly unique which allows individuals of virtually all ages to paint a rock with a “Fall” theme, enter it in her contest for multiple opportunities to receive prizes, recognition and – ultimately raise funds to feed the hungry.

The contest is completely free to enter.  The funds raised are done so by the auctioning off of the rocks in an online silent auction.  Hansen explains, “By entering the contest, each participant agrees to donate their rock to the auction, and the proceeds from the silent auction will go to purchasing non-perishable food items to stock the Autauga County Children’s Policy Council’s Micro Pantry located across from the Musgrove Fountain on the corner of Court and Main Streets.”  In addition, a portion of the proceeds will also go to cash prizes for the winners.  “If someone wants their rock back, they will need to bid for it,” Hansen explains.

There are three age groups: Kids ages up to 12; Teens ages 13-19; and Adults ages 20+.  Awards are presented in each age group in the Artistic Judging as well as in our People’s Choice Judging that will begin both online and at my gallery on October 25th.  The online silent auction will go live on October 25th and last until October 30th.  All winners will be announced on October 31, 2022.

To enter, individuals must come to Julianne Hansen Fine Art & Pottery to select a blank rock and become officially registered.  Artists have until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 8th to pick up their blank rock.  Completed rocks are due back to the gallery no later than 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 22nd.  Only paint or markers and clear sealer may be used on the rocks.  No embellishments may be affixed.  Only one entry per person.  Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

As with all of her projects, Julianne Hansen firmly believes, “any opportunity we have to make the world a better place, we should embrace with enthusiasm and gratitude.  When we can provide that service using art, that makes it all the more beautiful.”
