Monday was a hot and crazy day at Pratt Pool as multiple teams worked to win a much-coveted trophy in the city’s annual July 4th Cardboard Boat Races.
Teams from all over came together in the heat Monday to put together cardboard, duct tape and flotation devises and compete against each other with hundreds of others cheering them on.
Among the teams with cardboard boats were the USS Council (created and piloted by Prattville City Council members Lora Lee Boone and Robert Strichik), Donut Sink (Prattville Police Department), Red Team (Prattville Fire Department), The Life Savers (Parks and Recreation), Bismark, The Burns Boyz, Sy-Ny Floats, USS Firecracker, Graceful Lynn, USS Chevron, Jammy Dodger, Speedalishous, The Chance, Cardboard Buccaneer, Titanic and Team Christian.
Team members paddled, sunk, swam and struggled to the finish line while being celebrated and cheered by friends and family in the popular annual event.
After it was all said and done, the winners of the cardboard boat races were:
Fastest Boat- USS Firecracker
Most Creative Design- The Burns Boyz
Floats the Best- The Chance
