Elmore County High School Seniors to take part in County Government Day April 21

FROM THE ELMORE COUNTY COMMISSION

As part of the National Association of Counties (NACo) National County Government Month, the Elmore County Commission will host senior high school students from across the county to increase awareness of the role and responsibility of county government. The National Association of Counties (NACo) National County Government Month 2022 theme is “Counties THRIVE” which focuses on Technology, Health, Readiness, Infrastructure, Vulnerable population, and Economic growth.

We will spotlight the Welcome Center from Millbrook, the Elmore County Food Pantry, and Family Sunshine Center. This event serves as a great opportunity to familiarize students with various county agencies and their functions.

Activities:

 Special presentations from Welcome Center from Millbrook, Elmore County Food Pantry, and Family Sunshine Center

 Sheriff’s Department Special Operations demonstration

 Jaws of Life demonstration by the Wetumpka Fire Department

 Public Works Department equipment demo & discussion

 Touring educational booths hosted by 15 county agencies

 Registering to vote with the Board of Registrars

 Attending a County Commission Work Session and Business Meeting

This will include Elmore County Commission, countywide elected officials, Elmore County senior high school students

When: 9:15am – 12:30pm, Thursday, April 21, 2022

Where: Elmore County Courthouse, 100 E. Commerce St, Wetumpka, AL

Schedule of Events:

9:00 – 9:15 Students arrive and assemble on veranda

9:15 – 9:35 Welcome and Introduction of County Elected Officials

9:35 – 9:55 Students grouped with staff proceed to Courtroom

Groups 1 & 2 Go upstairs on right and enter through hallway

Groups 3 & 4 Go upstairs on left and enter through glass doors

10:00 – 10:45 Commission Work Session & Business Meeting

10:45 – 10:50 1st Rotation to Events

10:50 – 11:05 Groups 1 & 2 Courthouse Tour & Voter Registration – Exit front doors of courtroom

Group 3 Jaws of Life (Wetumpka Fire Dept.)

Exit back & down Annex stairs, exit left to outside

Group 4 Public Works Department – Exit glass doors outside to veranda
