Downtown Wetumpka is currently thriving and on the upward trend as new businesses and renovations sweep across the landscape.
One of the new businesses is Provisions Cheese and Wine Shoppe which is located in the old Fain Theater in downtown Wetumpka – a building that has stood for over 80 years.
“We realize that this theater is rich with history, and we plan on hanging black and white film posters across the walls to honor it,” said Provisions Co-Owner Kate Lawrence.
Lawrence, who co-owns the business with her husband, says the reception for their establishment has been noteworthy so far.
“The Wetumpka community has really been awesome, and so supportive,” Lawrence said. “We’re happy to be here, and we couldn’t think of anywhere else we’d rather be.”
Currently the building is under renovation – and Lawrence is operating out of a small 400 sq ft lobby area. The ceiling is not permanent as of now and the entire back of the building, which spans 3200 sq ft, has yet to be finished.
Lawrence says that construction on the back of the building should begin “sometime next week” and her and her husband hope that it only takes 4-6 weeks.
But the lack of space shouldn’t deter you from stopping by and trying some of their products, Lawrence says.
Provision has a wide variety of cheese, deli meats, and condiments of all kinds. Lawrence says that the business still needs to obtain their ABC license to sell wine, but that they are hopeful that they have it around the time that construction is completed.
Their grand opening is scheduled for early May.
“We’re ready to have everything complete without the all the hecticness that’s going on around us. We’re so, so excited to be a part of a growing downtown community – and we hope to be here for years to come,” Lawrence said.
