FROM CHIEF MARK THOMPSON
PRATVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT
At approximately 8:30 a.m., a patrol unit noticed a vehicle weaving in and out of traffic near McQueen Smith Road and Hwy. 14. The officer initiated a stop, in which the car ran at a high rate of speed in an attempt to elude the unit in the direction of Hwy 82. Officers placed spike strips in this area where the tires were deflated prior to the vehicle traveling into Downtown Prattville.
The vehicle stopped as it hit the curb near Washington and Main Street. The car is reported stolen out of Tennessee, and drugs and a weapon were located inside the vehicle. The initial investigation shows that the driver is from Tennessee, and the other passenger appears to be a local resident.
Thankfully, there was no civilian contact or injuries reported in this incident, but the subject narrowly missed a bicyclist during the pursuit.
More information will be provided as it is made available.
